My Values, Skills, and Must-Knows
I am fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to live life as a human being. With that good fortune, I want to use my time here to solve some of the worldโs biggest problems that connect principles of engineering, innovation, and technology.
I have a methodical approach when it comes to solving problems, balanced with an ability to adapt to changes on the fly. I especially enjoy being in leadership positions for group projects so I can use my strong interpersonal skills to impact my teammates.
If I can leave the world in a better place than when I entered it and positively impact as many people I interact with as possible, that is what success looks like to me!
3-Word Description
If I had to describe myself in 3 words, I would say that I am: driven ๐ค, curious ๐ค, and humble ๐.
I am driven to become the best person I can possibly be in whatever I decide to do. I strive to constantly improve myself in the key pillars of my life (relationships, health, work, self-development, fulfillment) and positively influence the lives of those around me.
I am curious about the ways in which I can create the impact I desire, realizing that I know so little about the universe as a whole. I am regularly seeking out new perspectives and developing new skills/interests. I value lifelong learning as a way to improve my quality of life overall, be it physically, mentally, or developing relationships with others. Seeking knowledge helps me become a more well-rounded person.
I am humble in that I don't overvalue my importance as a human being, understanding that I am extremely fortunate to have been born into the environment in which I currently live. I am non-judgemental towards others, understanding that everyone has a life story of which I know very little, which allows me to better see the potential and value that each person brings.
My Values
Discipline: If we all did the hard work, even when we didn't feel like it, the world would be in a much better place. But, it is a skill that is dying as we continue to evolve. In life, one can say that they want something or SHOW that they want something. I prefer the latter.
Health: A healthy mind/body are key fundamentals for everyone. As Gary Vee said, your health is important since "if you die, you're out of business." By focusing first on having proper mental and physical health, which is often the core problem of any other issue we face in life, we can have a strong and wide base upon which to build our skyscraper of achievements/successes.
Meaningful Work: I care about doing impactful work way more than the "Silicon Valley/MAANG as fast as I can" mission I see from lots of my peers. I would not want to switch lives with anyone "rich" if their work doesn't have the impact I want to have, because being fulfilled internally is what's most important to me.
Growth: While perfection doesn't exist, as Paul Kalanithi stated, "You can believe it as an asymptote toward which you are ceaselessly striving." I will never be a perfect human being, but understanding how to break the internal barriers that are set on me and striving to be excellent in domains that interest me is how I want to live.
Accountability/Appreciation: While seemingly polar opposites, both can work in tandem. Understanding that everything is our fault (even though it might not be true) gives us the control to look at ourselves and make the appropriate changes. With that, having a base of gratitude through exercises like journaling helps us realize the incredible opportunities we have, giving us the freedom to take risks.
Self-Awareness: No long-term fulfillment, success, and joy can be maintained without truly understanding who you are as a person. While this discovery is surely a difficult, lifelong process, understanding what you care about, your mission, values, and purpose is something that will guide all of your actions throughout life.
